Test Ride
Today I finally put butt-cheek to saddle and tested the bike ride into work from home - sensibly choosing to do it on a Sunday when (a) the traffic was lighter and (b) I didn't need to worry about arriving scarlet-faced and, erm, "perspiring" slightly!
Anyway, turns out that it's about seven and a half miles, and I can do it - quite comfortably - in just over 30 minutes. I think it's going to have to be "Good-bye South Eastern Railway!"
Well, perhaps once the firm *finally* installs some showers!!

Where've I been?
Just discovered this little tool care of the blog of someone I used to work with - quite nifty I think:

This is a link to the site where you can create your own version

Kenny
Good Friday was the first hot day of the year and I so I decided to try the one pub in Blackheath that I've not yet been to - the Princess of Wales. It's not the best by some margin, but it does allow outside drinking on the Heath. Which is quite good really.
Anyway, to help me, I took a friend...

That was before, this is after...

Quiz forfeit
At work, we have an annual quiz. By tradition, the team in last place at half-time had to undertake a forfeit in front of the rest of the firm, well - those that actually come along.
This year the penalty was to indulge in a spot of air guitar. This is the team in full-flow - the video is hilarious but I can't be bothered to work out how to attach it (and it'll chew-up bandwidth).
Anyway, left-to-right, we have Rob, Stephen, Ronnie, Zahira and Linky. The last of whom was judged the best and was thus "awarded" her guitar.

St. Paul's by night
Although it was really cold on the way home tonight, I felt like walking back to the station to get the train home. I took the route that takes me round past St. Paul's Cathedral which meant that I had the opportunity to stop and take a couple of photos.
This is probably the best of them which naturally doesn't look anywhere near as good on my camera as with the naked eye (the camera on my new phone is excellent in well-lit conditions, but is not so good in the dark).

Australia photos
When I finally left Australia in June 2002, I promised myself that I would definitely go back. And so, in the middle of December, I flew out to Sydney to spend about three weeks on holiday, catching up with my brother and some friends I'd made last time I was out there and generally having a good time.
Well, totally unsurprisingly, I had a great time, not doing much but getting nice and relaxed. Especially useful as work has been very demanding lately! (It was actually the first proper holiday I'd had in getting on for five years. Ok, I know that in the grand scheme of things this really is no kind of hardship, but it meant that the holiday felt nice and deserved, at least in my own mind!)
Anyway, as I said, I didn't do a great deal, but the highlights included going to the third day of the Ashes test in Melbourne and spending New Year's Eve on a perfect, harbourside vantage spot - the fireworks simply cannot be overrated! (Don't tell any Aussies that I said that though!). I also caught up with my friend
Cat who I've not seen since school, probably 12 years ago now!
Anyway, that's about all I shall say for now, but if you want to have a look at my pictures, you'll find them
here.

Snow
Yes, it's the time of year again. When a couple of centimetres of snow fall overnight and result in London, one of the world's great cities, effectively grinding to a halt. Ok, it meant that my plan to drive over to Blackheath was understandably thwarted (who wants to hit the A13 in a snowy rush hour?), but there really wasn't any need for my 50 minute journey to take the best part of 2 hours. Look for yourself - it was hardly arctic now was it...

Still, it was pretty. Although of course - it's all gone now.

Olly Schmidt
Olly arrived on 8 December 2006, both he and his mum Jen are doing very well.
I know his dad is putting together a website with more pics and videos of him, but I thought I'd put a couple of pics of him up on here. Cute ain't he.

Now for one of mother and son...
